What IS MORPHEUS8 RF MICRONEEDLING?
Morpheus8 radio-frequency (RF) microneedling is now available at Ren Cosmedical. It is the latest innovative skin tightening and remodelling treatment at our cosmetic clinic in Canberra. Dr. Ren Poh performs this non-invasive procedure on the face and body for skin rejuvenation, remodelling and tightening. It targets and strengthens the Fibro-Septal-Network (FSN) skin-fat matrix, which helps to improve skin appearance and reduce irregularities. Morpheus8 is one of the best RF microneedling devices available on the market today.
HOW DOES MORPHEUS8 RF MICRONEEDLING WORK?
Microneedling alone with a manual derma roller or microneedling device is known to induce body healing processes by stimulating collagen production.
Morpheus8 RF microneedling by InMode takes a step further in enhancing this body healing processes with its ability to deliver RF energy through its special insulated microneedles with unparalleled accuracy. With a portfolio of interchangeable tips containing pins that vary from 0.5mm to 7mm, Morpheus8 can deliver fractionated RF energy at different depths under the skin. This makes treatment highly customisable for patients depending on skin concerns and treatment areas (face or body).
As Morpheus8 does not affect melanin, there is low risk of post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). PIH is common with other resurfacing methods such as laser, especially to Asian skin or darker skin type patients. This makes Morpheus8 safe and effective to be used on all skin types, male or female.
HOW DOES MORPHEUS8 BODY WORK?
Morpheus8 Body has a unique large surface tip consisting of a matrix of 40 thin gold-coated microneedles and a thermal profile of 7mm with an additional heat profile of 1mm. It can be programmed to quickly treat large tissue surface areas at the deepest levels of RF energy available.
Using “Burst” mode RF technology, Morpheus8 Body automatically deploys bipolar RF energy to multi-level treatment depths in a single cycle. Its ability to target tissue sequentially at three levels, in milisecond intervals allows Dr. Ren to administer faster, more comfortable and more uniformed treatment for his patients. This feature also reduces skin injury and provides a highly customised full body fractional procedures. There is little to no thermal damage to the dermis and its suitable for all skin types to have Morpheus8 treatment on body.
WHICH AREAS CAN BE TREATED WITH MORPHEUS8?
Morpheus8 can be used on face and body. Dr. Ren can customise treatment for patients based on treatment areas, skin concerns, skin quality and thickness.

Although Morpheus8 can be a standalone skin tightening and remodelling treatment, it can be combined with other cosmetic treatments as well. Depending on patient’s aesthetic goals and needs, Dr. Ren can combine Morpheus8 with other treatments to achieve the following:
- FaceTite and/or AccuTite for a more complete skin tightening, remodelling and recontouring treatment to address skin laxity and sag. (This combo is a treatment option for people who are considering or have had surgical treatments such as facelift, blepharoplasty, liposuction, etc.)
- HALO Hybrid Fractional Laser and/or BroadBand Light (BBL) for firmer, healthier and rejuvenated skin. Suitable for crepey skin and sun damaged skin.
- Bio-remodelling injectables for skin rejuvenation and tightening.
- Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) to increase collagen production, enhanced healing and to achieve youthful and glowing skin. (It is an option for those who are not ready for cosmetic injectables such as anti-wrinkle or dermal filler injections)

During your Morpheus8 consultation:
Our cosmetic physician will have a face-to-face consultation and facial assessment with you prior to treatment. Please ensure that all makeup is removed well before your consultation for an accurate examination of your facial skin. You may leave your sunscreen on (preferably untinted), which can be removed during consultation.
Please advise our cosmetic physician if you:
- have allergic/anaphylaxis reactions to anaesthetic agents.
- are regularly taking anti-coagulant medication or fish oil supplements.
- are on blood-thinning medication such as aspirin.
- have a skin condition.
- have a pacemaker or internal defibrillator.
- have a superficial implants (metal plates, screws, metal piercing, cochlear implants).
- are on photo-sensitising medications (such as isotretinoin).
- have recent implants, filler, threads or wrinkle relaxer.
- have a history of herpes or cold sores (anti-viral medication pre and post treatment is highly recommended to prevent outbreak of cold sores. It can be prescribed to you if needed).
- have followed the prescribed skin prep prior to Morpheus8 treatment.
Skin preparation / requirement before Morpheus8 treatment:
The key to achieving desirable results with Morpheus8 is to use a combination of sun protection regularly. Use SPF 50+ sunscreen regularly and sun protection clothing (e.g., hats, long sleeves shirts, umbrella). Always reapply sunscreen every 2 hours.
Avoid consuming alcohol and smoking/vaping 48 hours prior to treatment as these will impede recovery.
No blood-thinning medication, anti-coagulant medication/fish or krill oil supplement, anti-inflammatory medication, vitamin E, herbal supplements for at least 1 week prior to treatment, as these may contribute to possible bruising.
Avoid extended sun exposure such as beach, travel to sunny locations, sunbathing, outdoor sports, etc.
Stop use of topical retinol or retinoic acid for 1 week prior to treatment.
No recent sunburn experience or fake tans for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment.
No isotretinoin for a year prior to treatment.
On the day of Morpheus8 treatment appointment:
Please come without heavy makeup on face. Use sunscreen only and this will be removed at clinic before treatment.
Please leave jewellery (e.g., earrings, piercings, necklaces, bracelets, etc.) at home or remove them before treatment.
Wear a wide brim hat or use umbrella before and after treatment.
The area of skin being treated is firstly cleansed thoroughly. Topical anaesthetic is then prescribed and applied to the area being treated, leaving it on for 30 to 45 minutes. Skin is cleansed again to remove topical anaesthetic.
The procedure is well-tolerated by patients, depending on treatment areas and treatment intensity. The Morpheus8 RF microneedling device will be stamped by practitioner in a uniform manner onto the skin with mild pressure being felt. Pinpoint bleeding may occur.
After the procedure, cooling device continues to be used to increase patient’s comfort level. Post-treatment soothing balm is applied lastly to the treated skin.
Downtime:
Recovery varies between patients, depending on treatment depth and aggresiveness. It also takes into account of patient’s skin concerns, health of skin and healing ability.
For a standard Morpheus8 treatment on face, 2 to 7 days of downtime is expected with minimal pain.
For a standard Morpheus8 treatment on neck, décolletage or other body treatment areas, downtime may take up to 2 weeks.
Treatment duration:
Treatment duration varies depending on treatment areas and complexities.
For standard full face Morpheus8 treatment, treatment duration is approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. This includes duration for skin cleansing, photo-taking, 30 to 45 minutes for topical anaesthetic application and 30 to 40 minutes for Morpheus8 procedure.
The results and longevity of a Morpheus8 treatment varies and depends on the condition of the skin before treatment and how well the skin is protected from UV damage after treatment. For best results, most patients require a series of 1 to 3 sessions, with at least 4-6 weeks apart to achieve optimal results.
For individuals with mild skin laxity or are seeking for general skin health with increased collagen production, they can benefit from just one session with noticeable results of smoother, firmer and tighter skin within 2 weeks. Please note that as skin continues to age, an annual maintenance treatment is highly recommended to maintain skin tightening results and to delay the ageing process. Individuals who seek for more skin improvement or for a boost before an event (weddings, corporate dinner, birthdays, etc.), they are welcomed to book in for treatment sooner as well.
For those with medium skin laxity or acne scars, 3 or more sessions are recommended for optimal results. Maintenance treatment is recommended and will be tailored by Dr. Ren in a treatment plan, based on individual’s needs.
On final Morpheus8 treatment session, peak collagen remodelling occurs 3 to 6 months. This continue to improve over time with long-lasting results for most individuals, depending on frequency of Morpheus8 treatment or other complementary treatment(s) such as HALO laser, BBL, bio-modelling injectables, etc.
For a standard full face Morpheus8 treatment, patient can expect recovery process as outlined below (for reference only):
Day 1 to 3 (in some cases, up to 6 days):
Redness, swelling and sensitivity are expected in the treated area — almost like a sunburn. Tiny, red spots, bumps and grid marks will appear on the treated skin over the course of these days. They may look like “coffee-grounds” on the skin and are referred as MENDs (Microscopic Epidermal Necrotic Debris). MENDs are sections of treated skin being removed from the body, which are then replaced by healthy new skin. This is more common following a superficial Morpheus8 treatment and if individual is of darker skin Fitzpatrick.
Day 4 to 1 week:
Skin feels tight and dry with decreased redness and swelling. May experience slight flaking of the dry skin and more MENDs appearing on treated skin. Certain individuals may experience some pimple or acne breakouts, which can be managed with oral or topical antibiotic if required. Mineral based and light makeup can be applied with clean brushes only after 48 hours post treatment.
2 to 4 weeks:
Depending on treatment intensity and treatment area, skin may still feel tight and dry, but improvements are noticeable with smoother, firmer and tighter skin. Grid marks will be less noticable as MENDS continue to dissipate within these weeks, if treatment is on face. If treatment is on the body, MENDS will continue to dissipate within 4 to 6 weeks. These are microscopic injury sites and may appear as slight darkening of the skin.
4 to 6 months after treatment:
Skin continues to remodel with collagen stimulation process. Results of smoother skin with tightening effect up to 9 to 12 months.
