Forever Clear BBL (Acne)

During your BBL consultation:

Our cosmetic physician will have a face-to-face consultation with you where you can discuss your concerns or questions about the treatment. Please ensure that all makeup is removed well before your consultation for an accurate examination of your facial skin. You may leave your sunscreen on (preferably untinted), which can be removed during consultation.

Please advise our cosmetic physician if you are:

• regularly taking anti-coagulation therapy
• have a skin condition
• have a history of herpes or cold sores (anti-viral medication pre and post treatment is highly recommended to prevent outbreak of cold sores. It can be prescribed to you if needed)

To ensure skin is in optimal condition before BBL treatment, a lightening cream or skin preparation cream may be prescribed by our cosmetic physician to be used for 2 to 4 weeks during the initial consultation. 

Skin preparation / requirement before BBL treatment:

The key to achieving desirable results with BBL is to use a combination of sun protection regularly. Use SPF 50+ sunscreen regularly and sun protection clothing (e.g., hats, long sleeves shirts, umbrella). Always reapply sunscreen every 2 hours.

Avoid extended sun exposure such as beach, travel to sunny locations, sunbathing, outdoor sports.

Stop use of topical retinol or retinoic acid for 1 week prior to treatment.

No recent sunburn experience or fake tans for at least 4 weeks prior to treatment.

No isotretinoin for at least 6 months prior to treatment.

On the day of BBL treatment appointment:

Please come without heavy makeup on face. Use sunscreen only and this will be removed at clinic before treatment.

Please leave jewellery (e.g., earrings, piercings, necklaces, bracelets, etc.) at home or remove them before treatment.

Wear a wide brim hat or use umbrella before and after treatment.

The area of skin being treated is firstly cleansed and the patient’s eyes are protected with safety shields or glasses.

During the treatment, there is a noticeable flash sensation similar to the flash of a camera with each pulse of the laser. Some slight discomfort might be felt, which is often described as a warm elastic band flicked onto the skin. However, any discomfort is momentary and there is no need for any topical anaesthetic cream. If pain is a concern, topical anaesthetic cream can be offered or the use of cold compressed air can be used to minimise the discomfort associated with the procedure.

Minimal downtime with minimal pain.

Patient may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours to a day. Patient may experience an initial “purge” response in the skin with a temporary flare of acne, due to deep congestion.

Patient can resume normal activity post treatment, as long as patient avoids excess heat, sun exposure and exercises.

Makeup can be applied immediately post treatment, as long as skin is intact and there are no signs of blistering.

Treatment takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes, depending on treatment areas and complexities.

The results of a Forever Clear BBL treatment varies between individuals and among skin types.

Subsequent treatments are based upon our cosmetic physician’s recommendation and are typically 1 to 2 treatments per week for at least 4 weeks or until acne clears. The number and frequency of treatments required will depend on the severity of your acne and how well it responds to the treatment.

Forever Clear BBL treatment can be paired with Healite II LED light therapy, chemical peels or recommended skincare products suitable for acne-prone skin. Talk to our cosmetic physician to customise your treatment plan for clearer skin and to achieve your desired aesthetic outcome.

Treatment is not be suitable if you:

• Are pregnant or are trying to become pregnant
• Are breastfeeding
• Have epilepsy or migraines triggered by flashing lights
• Have porphyria
• Are on photosensitising medications or have light sensitive disorders
• Have used isotretinoin within last 6 months prior to treatment
• Have open wounds or skin injury
• Have recent sunburn, prolonged unprotected sun exposure or solarium use 4 weeks prior to treatment
• Have used fake tans 4 weeks prior to treatment
• Are on anti-coagulant medication or heavy aspirin use
• Have an active infection and/or compromised immune system.
• Have a history of keloid or hypertrophic scar formation
• Have skin cancers or skin infections
• Have very dark skin colour (Fitzpatrick skin type IV)
